Conference Rooms

Conference Rooms are persistent, dial-in audio bridges (each with its own number and, optionally, a PIN) that let several people join the same call. They are useful for recurring meetings and for participants who join by phone rather than an app. Your administrator may grant your extension access to one or more conference rooms, in which case the Conference Rooms screen becomes available and lists the rooms assigned to you.

As an alternative to Conference Rooms you can use Thirdlane Connect Channels for both audio and video conferencing - a better fit for ad-hoc meetings and screen sharing.

Clicking on “Recorded Calls” opens a window where you can click on individual recorded conferences and listen to the recording.

Clicking on “Monitor” for a room opens the Conference Monitor window.

Conference Monitor

Conference Monitor allows a user with appropriate permissions to see the conference in progress. It shows all the participants and their status, shows “active talker”, allows to “Mute” and “Unmute” all or individual participants, and “Lock” the conference to disallow new participants.

Conference Monitor also allows to remove all or individual participants from the conference if necessary.

Best practices

  • Lock the room once everyone expected has joined to prevent uninvited or stray callers from entering mid-meeting.
  • Use Mute All for large calls and unmute individuals to speak - it keeps background noise from disrupting the discussion.
  • Choose Connect channels for video or screen sharing; dial-in Conference Rooms are audio bridges and are best for phone-only participants.
