Fax Settings
Fax Settings control how your outgoing faxes are sent and how you are notified of the result. Setting these once - your Station ID, paper size, and notification preference - means every fax you send from the User Portal or Thirdlane Connect is identified correctly to the recipient and you know whether it went through. You can send a fax by uploading a PDF file.
Station ID. Specify your Station ID which is transmitted to the recipient when an outgoing fax is sent. It may appear in the display of the recipient’s fax machine, usually consists of your fax number and business name and is limited to 20 characters.
Paper Size. Paper size for sending faxes.
Notify sender both on failure and success. Specify whether you want to be notified both on failure and success.
Number of retries. Number of retries before giving up when sending a fax.
Retry Time (secs). Time to wait after an unsuccessful attempt.
Wait Time (secs). Time to wait for the result after the fax is sent.
Best practices
- Set a recognizable Station ID (your fax number and business name, within the 20-character limit) so recipients can identify where the fax came from.
- Enable success-and-failure notifications if faxes are important - knowing a fax failed lets you resend promptly instead of assuming it arrived.
- Leave retries at a sensible value. A couple of automatic retries handles a briefly busy receiving machine without endlessly retrying a wrong number.
