License
The License section is where you see your current license status and manage the license that authorizes your installation - its type, its limits (such as the number of users and concurrent calls), and its expiration. The Configuration Manager requires a valid license to operate, so this is the screen you use to request a license while evaluating, install a license you have purchased, or move a license between servers.
License lifecycle
When Thirdlane is installed it creates a limited, locally installed temporary license so you can start using the Configuration Manager immediately. Before that temporary license lapses you should move to one of the proper license categories:
- Free (Thirdlane License) - a no-cost license suitable for small deployments; you can purchase a commercial license later if you need to support more users and calls.
- Trial License - a time-limited license for evaluation that can be extended, or converted to a production license.
- Commercial License - a purchased production license sized to your requirements.
Actions
The buttons available on this screen depend on your current license state - some appear only when relevant.
Request a Trial License. Requests a temporary Trial License you can use while evaluating. Click the button and fill out the form; activation instructions are sent to the email address you provide. A Trial License can be extended or converted to a production license.
Purchase a License. Opens a form to request a commercial license. After you submit it, Thirdlane contacts you with payment instructions.
Install License Key. If you were provided with a License Key, enter it in the displayed form to activate the license on this server.
Install License File. If you were provided with a license as a file rather than a key, upload it here.
Deactivate License. Releases the license from this server so it can be used elsewhere. Use this on the old server when moving your installation to different hardware.
Activate License. Re-activates a license on this server - the counterpart to Deactivate. Use this on the new server after moving your installation.
Check License Status. Re-checks the current license state. Use it after requesting or activating a license to confirm the change has taken effect.
Moving a license to another server
A license is tied to the server it is activated on. To relocate your installation without buying a new license:
- On the old server, click Deactivate License.
- Move or reinstall your installation on the new server.
- On the new server, click Activate License (or install the same key).
- Click Check License Status to confirm.
Best practices
- Switch off the temporary install-time license before it lapses by requesting a Trial or installing a purchased license - otherwise the Configuration Manager can become disabled when it expires.
- Deactivate before you migrate. Always deactivate on the old server before activating on a new one; skipping the deactivation step can leave the key bound to hardware you no longer use.
- After any license change, click Check License Status to verify the new state rather than assuming it applied.
- Keep your license contact email current - activation and expiration notices are sent there.
Some of the buttons above may not be visible; their presence depends on the current status of your license.
