Sound Packages

Sound Packages are the collections of pre-recorded audio prompts the system plays to callers - the voice that says “please enter your extension,” reads back digits, announces queue position, and so on - along with the default music-on-hold. This screen lets you install those packages, add prompts in additional languages or audio encodings, and update installed packages when newer versions are released, so callers hear clear prompts that match the codecs and languages your deployment uses.

Why encoding and language matter

  • Encoding determines the audio format the prompts are stored in. Installing prompts in the same codec your calls use (for example G.722 for HD audio, or GSM for narrowband) lets the system play them without transcoding, which lowers CPU load and preserves quality. If a matching format is not available, the system falls back to converting on the fly.
  • Language sets the spoken language of the prompts. Install the language(s) your callers expect; tenant and route configuration can then reference them.

Using the screen

The grid lists every package that is available and shows which are already Installed. For each package you can see its Type and choose which formats and languages you want:

  • Core Package - the essential system prompts used throughout the platform.
  • Extra Package - additional, less commonly used prompts.
  • Music-on-Hold - default hold music.

Select the packages you want and click Install/Update Selected to install new ones or bring existing ones up to date.

Installing Sound Packages may take some time - the files are large and are downloaded from remote repositories. Let the installation finish before navigating away.

Best practices

  • Install prompts in the codecs your endpoints and trunks actually negotiate to avoid unnecessary transcoding.
  • Install every language your callers use, not just the system default, so IVRs and announcements can be localized per tenant or route.
  • Re-check this screen after upgrades - if an installed package has a newer version, updating keeps prompt wording and quality current.
