DIDs/Phone Numbers

Phone Numbers (DIDs/DDIs) are the external numbers your carriers deliver to the platform. You create them here, assign them to tenants, and then use them when building Inbound Routes or User Extensions - either through the Bulk Generator or when creating individual User Extensions.

Viewing and filtering

Existing Phone Numbers are shown in a list with a selector at the top that filters by state:

  • All Phone Numbers
  • Assigned to tenants
  • Unassigned
  • Assigned to the currently selected tenant
  • In use (assigned to User Extensions, Voice Menus, Inbound Routes, etc.)

Adding Phone Numbers

To add a range, enter the first and last number in the From and To fields; to add a single number, enter it in From only. Then click Add Phone Numbers.

  • Assign checkbox - when checked, the added numbers are also assigned to the currently selected tenant in one step.
  • Prepend - adds a prefix to every number in the range. This is useful when numbers should start with a 0 or + that you do not want to type into the numeric range fields.

You can also create Phone Numbers in bulk by uploading a CSV file.

Assigning and unassigning

Assignment controls which tenant a number belongs to:

  • Assign Selected - assign the selected (unassigned) numbers to the currently selected tenant.
  • Unassign Selected - return assigned numbers to the unassigned pool.

You cannot unassign a number that is in use. Delete the corresponding Inbound Route (or remove it from the User Extension) first, then unassign it.

Numbers used by an Inbound Route are marked accordingly: creating an Inbound Route sets the number’s status to “Used in Inbound Routes”, and deleting the route clears that status.

SMS-enabling Phone Numbers

Phone Numbers can be SMS-enabled for sending and receiving text messages through Thirdlane Connect.

  1. Select the numbers.
  2. Choose a configured SMS Gateway from the list.
  3. Click Set SMS Gateway for Selected.

Once numbers are SMS-enabled, assign them to users in Message Routes.
