Message Detail Records
Message Detail Records (MDR) provide a searchable log of SMS and messaging activity, similar to CDR for voice calls.
Two versions of this screen
There are two entry points under Reports. Message Detail Records is the current browser, with an inspector below the list that shows message details and the other messages in the same interaction. Messaging Log (classic) is the original grid, kept alongside it so existing habits and saved workflows still work.
Both read the same records. The classic grid is unchanged, and this page describes behaviour common to both unless stated otherwise.
Viewing Message Records
The MDR section allows you to browse and filter message records by date range, source number, destination number, tenant, and message direction (inbound or outbound).
Record Details
Each record includes the timestamp, source and destination numbers, message status (delivered, failed, pending), tenant name, and associated channel or route information.
Filtering and Export
You can apply filters to narrow results to a specific time period or phone number. The filtered results can be exported to CSV for further analysis or record-keeping.
Message Detail Records are subject to the same retention policies as CDR. Configure retention settings in Tenant or system-wide Preferences.
Best practices
- Check delivery status when a message is disputed. The status field (delivered, failed, pending) is the quickest way to confirm whether an SMS or WhatsApp message actually reached the recipient.
- Filter by date range and number to keep queries responsive over a large message history.
- Export to CSV for compliance records or to reconcile messaging usage with your gateway’s billing.
